Ford was introducing an electic version of the Ford Fusion to compete with the Toyota Prius. We partnered with IDEO and Ford to help users get the most out of their new vehicle.
From IDEO's user research, we learned that customers were relunctant to buy an electric vehicle because of their limited range. At the time, the car's bettery could only hold enough charge for a 100 mile trip. This is far less than the 300-400 miles a driver is used to. This caused customers anxiety that if they had several trips to make in a day, they may not be able to return home without the need to recharge.
Leveraging Mapquest's routing algorithm, we created a web interface and mobile app the enables Ford customers to plan their day. The application will route the customer to their locations and predict their car's charge from beginning to end. We also integrates Ford's SYNC technology to send all the routing information to the vehicle.
