What If We Open-Sourced the Entire Product Creation Process?

I've been secretly working on something that might sound crazy: making our entire 12-agent product creation system completely transparent. I think it could change everything.

Last month, I was deep in a Slack thread with my team, debugging why our validation process took three weeks when it should've taken three days. And it hit me: we're all solving the same damn problems, but we're all doing it in isolation.

What if that's completely backwards?

I've spent the last year building what I call a "12-agent product creation engine", basically, AI agents that handle everything from market validation to retention architecture. It's working, better than I expected. But something keeps me up at night: I'm hoarding all this knowledge while watching other founders make the exact same mistakes I made six months ago.

So here's my probably-insane idea: What if we made the entire product creation process open source?

The "Secret Sauce" Problem Nobody Talks About

Real talk: Most "proprietary validation frameworks" are just variations on the same core principles. We're all trying to figure out if people actually want what we're building. We're all wrestling with retention loops and defensible moats. We're all debugging why our PRDs look like they were written by committees of confused robots.

But instead of learning from each other, we're all reinventing the wheel. Badly.

Imagine GitHub, but for entire product creation systems. The whole thing, beyond code. The validation frameworks. The orchestration patterns. The document templates. The lessons learned from spectacular failures.

Here's how I'm thinking about it:

Modular Agent Library

Instead of black-box systems, we build discrete agents that anyone can plug into their workflow. Think of it like npm packages, but for product creation:

  • Insight Strategist → Uncovers unfair insights from market data
  • Retention Architect → Designs habit-forming user experiences
  • Portfolio Prioritizer → Scores and ranks product opportunities
  • Test Engineer → Generates comprehensive validation test suites

Each agent comes with documentation, example outputs, and, this is the key part, real case studies showing where it worked and where it face-planted.

This is the part I'm most excited about: real, no-BS case studies. The complete failures, alongside the success stories.

I'm talking about detailed breakdowns like:

I learn more from other people's disasters than their victories. And I bet you do too.

But Ryan, Won't This Kill My Competitive Advantage?

I get this question every time I mention open-sourcing our process. And honestly? I used to think the same way.

Okay, enough theory. Here's how I think we could make this real:

Phase 1: Document Everything

Start by making our current 12-agent system completely transparent. Every prompt. Every decision tree. Every failure mode we've discovered. Put it all on GitHub with proper documentation.

No marketing spin. No hiding the ugly parts. Just: "Here's what we built, here's how it works, here's where it breaks."

Phase 2: Invite Contributions

Open it up for community contributions. Maybe someone has a better Insight Strategist agent. Maybe another team has figured out a retention pattern we haven't tried. Let them submit pull requests.

The best contributions get merged into the main system. Everyone benefits.

Phase 3: Scale the Learning

As more teams use the system, we get more data. More edge cases. More failure modes. More success patterns. The system gets better for everyone.

Eventually, we could have something like:

  • A library of 50+ specialized agents for every aspect of product creation
  • Validation frameworks tested across hundreds of products
  • Case study database with real P&L impact data
  • Orchestration templates for every market vertical

The Plot Twist: This Might Already Be Starting

Here's what's interesting: I'm seeing early signs of this happening organically. Product teams are sharing more frameworks on Twitter. VCs are open-sourcing their due diligence processes. Even Y Combinator basically open-sourced their entire startup methodology.

The question isn't whether this will happen. It's whether we'll be early enough to help shape it.

And honestly? I'm tired of watching good founders fail because they didn't know something we'd already figured out. If open-sourcing our process can prevent even one team from spending six months building something nobody wants, it's worth it.

So What's Next?

I'm starting with our current system. Over the next few months, I'm going to document and open-source our entire 12-agent product creation engine. Every agent. Every framework. Every spectacular failure we've learned from.

Will some competitors benefit? Probably. Will the entire ecosystem of product creation get better? Definitely.
